Elaina Anderson (GS)

Home Town: Buffalo, New York

Undergraduate Education: Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Science at Stony Brook University, New York

Honors/Awards: Recipient of the Roy G. Post Scholarship (2017), Inaugural intern for the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Summer 2014)

Research Area: I am studying the microstructural evolution of alloys under irradiation for nuclear power applications. My work is in collaboration with a project that compares damage from ion irradiation to the damage that occurs within a nuclear reactor from neutron irradiation. My contribution to the integrated research project is the characterization of these damaged samples using the technique of atom probe tomography.

Outside of Research: When I’m not doing science or proclaiming my love for nuclear waste, I enjoy: tracing my genealogy, practicing yoga, reading books (currently non-fiction), and going on adventures (next stop is Iceland).
