Atom Probe Tomography

Atom probe tomography (APT) combines time of flight mass spectrometry and position sensitive detection to analyze ionized atoms that are field evaporated from needle shaped specimens. Each detected ion is positioned within a 3D volume, which is constructed and scaled based on an inferred or measured specimen geometry. APT provides 3D atom-by-atom reconstructions of the microstructures of interest and chemical information down to the sub-nanoscale.
